Cornelius Dupree Jr. was sentenced to 75 years in prison in 1980 after he was convicted of rape and robbery of a 26-year old woman. Turns out he was innocent after a DNA test.
A shoemaker spent 2 years in prison with Dupree and said he always believed Dupree was innocent. He said he has a quiet, peaceful demeanor. He was released in July for mandatory supervision, under house arrest until October. after a week DNA results came back and he was innocent.
As soon as Dupree was free he married Selma, his fiance. They met two decades ago while he was in prison. He said" It is a joy to be free again."
When he got out in 2004 he thought he was going home, turns out he had to go to a sex offender treatment program.
I think that Dupree should get some of that money. The police did nothing wrong but neither did Dupree. The police arrested him because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But Dupree stuck with the part that he was innocent. it was not all the police's fault. They did what they were supposed to do.
